Danica Pirečnik (Šoštanj, 1954) is music teacher and choir conductor. She graduated at Ljubljana Music Academy. In year 1978 she started conducting girls' choir of Velenje Highschool. Under her leading in year 1987 the choir has expanded into mixed choir. She achieved her first conducting successes with these two choirs on Slovenian choir competitions and abroad – Europe and Canada. Danica Pirečnik conducts the choir ŠAPZ since it's foundation in 1999. During this period the choir had won a few golden prizes on Slovenian choir competitions and some first prizes on international competitions. As a conductor she is especially proud of 1998’s Grand Prix from KATHAUMIWV competition in Canada, 2009’s Grand Prix from Varna and 2010’s choir performance in final round of European award also in Varna. Last two successes were won with choir ŠAPZ. During her career as a conductor of different choirs she performed a lot of Slovenian choir novelties. In year 1996 she received a state recognition award for her contribution to the development of culture of choir singing in Slovenia. In Velenje she was awarded with the acknowledgement of Napotnik for her extraordinary work in the field of culture. She is also a member of different choir expert juries on Slovenian choir competitions. Her musicality, professional approach, musical taste and suggestive power are, in opinion of profession, her greatest virtues that distinguish her convincing interpretations of choir works.
